Just to add to what Graeme said, there's a fantastic range of distance learning courses available these days from traditional universities as well as the OU. Sorry if this causes offence to anyone who is keen on the OU, but Dave and I have both done the odd course with the OU and both of us found that the standard wasn't as high as the 'real' unis we'd previously attended.
I did an MSc (finished it last year) by distance learning part-time over three years with RGU, Aberdeen, Scotland and thought the standard of teaching and support was pretty good. All the course modules were delivered over the Internet. I personally recommend this method of study as it was the only way I could study with a British uni whilst living in India and Thailand.
If your daughter is interested in getting her degree by distance learning I suggest looking at the websites of the unis she fancies to see what's available.
Here's a link to a webpage with the URLs of most British unis - hope it's useful.
