Im moving to Spain mid may and wont have a chance to get out there before i move across. Im reading about the NIE and im getting myself confused. I need to start work asap when i arrive in spain so obviously i would apply for the NIE as soon as i arrived. Would i have to wait for the 20 days until it arrived for me to work or can i work during these 20 days? Any help would be greatly appriciated!

You don't say where in Spain, but virtually anywhere you woulkd be lucky to get your NIE in 20 days.

Have you got a job lined up? If not, and depending what you do, you may found employment difficult.

Hey Goldytap,
Assuming you're not self employed then your employer would be the logical place to start and if they don't know I'm sure they can recommend a gestor to you that would.
I setup a limited company here and ran it for quite sometime before my residency came through. The big downside was the tax rate I was charged as a non-resident in the interim, but it was certainly possible.

We got our NIEs same day in Sevilla. We took the completed application forms, our passports with photocopies and our Copia Simple and photocopies. Once we reached the head of the queue the official checked the documents and made out two payment forms for us to take to the bank around the corner. Once they were receipted we took them back to the office, were called to the head of the queue, our receipts were checked and we were given our NIEs which are just A4 sheets. As I recall you need to give a reason for requiring an NIE. Ours, of course, was that we own a house here. I've heard that a rental agreement or an employers letter will be accepted too.
