Selling your Solar Electricity Production to the Grid

Selling your Solar Electricity Production to the Grid

Postby solarq » Tue 2 Sep 2008 11:27 GMT

Law DL nº 363/2007, dated 2nd of November makes it possible to produce your own solar electricity and sell it for an attractive price to the grid under certain conditions. This possibility appears in the follow up of the government’s policy to promote renewable energies.

Two different rate systems have been established. The one that concerns here is called “Regime Remuneratório Bonificado” and pays at present to the private producer 0,65 €/kWh for about 5 years, then being gradually reduced over the next 10 years to the market price in effect. A person taking part in this program will receive the special price in effect at the time for all the electricity delivered to the grid, whereas he only pays the actual market price (at present 0,11 €/kWh) for the electricity consumed.

Last week I assisted the installation of photovoltaic equipment on a roof close to Sintra / Lisbon. A friend, his son together with a Portuguese company, installed the system and organized all what was necessary.

The next system they install, will be also in the area of Sintra, but it will be a ground-based system following the position of the sun to improve efficiency.
