Luanda to Quicama National Park

Luanda to Quicama National Park

Postby thekevjones » Fri 13 Mar 2009 16:11 GMT

I am planning a business trip to Luanda within the next month.

My commitments will be relatively brief but I want to see some of the real Angola whilst I am there. The nearest NP seems to be Quicama so I was thinking of hiring a personal guide to escort me from Luanda to the NP and back, within 2-3 days...seeing as much of the country along the way as possible.

Does this sound reasonable and does anyone know of any respectable guides?

Any related information would be appreciated....

Thanks
Kev

Quicama NP - how to get there (?)

Postby peter_holdziew » Mon 30 Mar 2009 07:31 GMT

Hallo Kev,

I am facing the same question for my trip planned for May/June. I cannot help you on how to plan your trip to that NP, but recommend to read J. F. Walker's "A certain Curve of Horn", a story which is woven around the discovery of the giant sable antelope and gives a good overview over the history of Angola and the interesting story how the Quicama National Park was restocked with elephants and large antelopes in a time, when civil war was still going on. My hint is not entirely unselfish - if you manage to get to Quicama, I would be grateful for some info..

I since found out how expensive Angola is. Luanda is the most expensive city in the world! FACT!!

Although I have found the guys at this place very helpful:

Your best bet is to piggy back another tour rather than go alone....

Good luck!
