Today's promised Rapture, and other human delusions

Some people like to talk politics, others don't. I've made a separate forum so you can post if you want or ignore it if you don't. Hope this is an acceptable compromise.

Did any of you see the Beyond the Fringe 'End of the World' sketch
(originally performed 50-odd years ago)?

Apparently, today was the latest in the never-ending line of prophesied days of the apocalypse, but this article points out that you don't have to be religious to suffer a failed prediction - and that you will probably react in the same way as the faithful do after an expectation is dashed...

We were at a big party in Bangkok and had forgotten about this other major event. At least the party happened, unlike the other thing. I'll be posting some photos soon in case anyone wants to see them.

Guess who won first prize for their costume!

No, not Jesus. It was someone who went dressed as a Wild West saloon.

Never mind the doors, my saloon had everything! It took me more than a week to paint it. It started life as a cardboard box which our fridge/freezer was delivered in, and ended up completely transformed. It was a lot of fun to do.

First prize!? If you'd taken it to the local council back in the UK you would have received housing benefit for the rest of your life. c.

I got a label saying "first place" to stick on myself. For some reason that seemed to be reward enough at the time. Apparently the saloon is to be shipped to America next. I'm just glad that we didn't have to struggle with taking it home. It was enough trouble getting it there in the first place.
