Qala - Hondoq development

Postby HappyGecko » Thu 7 Mar 2013 14:17 GMT

Hi there - I'm moving to Gozo this year. We've found a lovely house on the outskirts of Qala.

Then I read about the Qala Creek/Hondoq development....

I realise the issue has been rumbling on for years - does anyone have a view about whether this is likely to get the thumbs up from numbskull politicians?? I'd really appreciate a local view.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, and welcome :-)

I suspect some form of development will get approval, and the disruption to Qala to go on for years.

Thanks - that's my worry. I guess we'd better start looking elsewhere. Such a shame..

Seems crazy that they'd ruin such natural beauty given that's a major appeal of the island.

If the property in question is on the outskirts of Qala it might not be affected by any construction traffic, but it might already be affected by the quarry traffic !

I don't think it is - it's not on the road to Hondoq and only has protected land in front... I noticed that the junction in the centre of Qala was mentioned and it's not near there.

I'd forgotten what 'fun' moving overseas was!

one end of that road is where the quarries are - I'm guessing you are talking about the other end (the western end).

Thanks - just taking a look but it's difficult to tell from the map even with the legend on show.

Yes, it's the western end just off Triq Wied Is-Simar

At least one of the forum members used to rent a farmhouse just there. Is it an old or a new place ?

Old...it's been rented out on and off for a few years, I think. If you could ask the forum member for feedback, I'd be grateful - any insight welcome!

Cant remember who it was, but I think they moved out as damp and difficult to keep warm as north facing - are you looking to rent or buy ?

Either - this is helpful, thanks. I think we'll have to reconsider. The point re north facing is a pertinent one.

not only is that bit north facing (if its the bit I'm thinking of, near a little roundabout), but its also on a downslope sloping towards the north
