You are opening up new interesting scenarios to me :-)
So for instance dividends from non-maltese companies (as remitted capital) should not be taxed at all?

dividends are income not capital, normally

Not as simple as that, I believe income does not become capital for some years. There is something relating to the income stream as well: if some a stream of income stops (eg a company is closed, contract finished etc) then its more likely you can treat it as capital sooner.

I would think you would have a one-off opportunity to remit previous income before moving to Malta, before the remittance rules apply, and also its a good idea to have separate income/capital accounts to avoid mixing income and capital.

again it comes down to - speak to a professional and disclose your exact circumstances - so much of tax law is determined by the detail

Yes I definitely will (and will ask also inland revenues for the original interpretations :-) )
