No, really... it does!
But does it matter more in Malta than at home?

New forex forum on BE

We've created a new forum especially for forex and currency matters because they affect all expats. Rather than have this resource spread out over various country fora, we're keeping the info centralised on our main forum.

You can visit it for all your currency questions and discussions.

Is it okay to name names there? I see a posting by a (self declared) director of a forex company so I'm assuming it is.

Good question, JJ. 8)

Things evolve all the time, although we like to keep our rules clear and simple - and the rules should apply to everyone, not just to some people.

In the interests of transparency, here's the story. Mark B has offered to provide us with impartial and independent advice on our new forex forum. We also have other forex specialists who may well want to do so too. I believe that this will be a benefit to our site visitors because expats often want to know information about currency transfers.

You asked about the rules - the rules are that we allow one external link in the signature. We do not allow any commercial links in the postings. Ah, naming names? Do we have an anomaly here - well, maybe. The Malta forum is quite different from all of our others.

Mark Bodega - who is, as you say, a director of a forex company - has done nothing wrong. He's been very transparent about what he's doing. If there's any fault involved it's probably mine for not discussing it with our supporters first.

As for naming names on the forex board, it's intended to be a place where people can gain independent and impartial advice, so I don't have any problem with naming names on there (no links, please).

However, nothing has changed on the Malta forum, and recommendations belong on the RS board. Thanks for joining that.

If there's a problem, please give us a chance to resolve it. We'll do our best. Please bear with us and we'll listen to your comments and advice.

Sorry if that sounded like a criticism, I was just after clarification before I put my foot in it. And by "(self declared) director" I meant he was open about it, rather than doing a sneaky plug for his own firm.

So if I was to mention my own positive experience with a firm (that I've mentined by name in RS here) that would be okay as long as I don't add links or make it sound like a commercial? Of course, if someone then followed up with a bad experience with the same firm then I guess we've all benefited.

I would have replied to you sooner, JJ, but my connection had a very bad hair day when we started this conversation and I've only just seen your posting.

I don't see why you can't mention a name on the forex forum. The new place should be objective and useful - just like we hope the RS board on the Malta forum is. 8)

Thanks for asking, and I didn't think you were criticising. I was just getting a little bit stressed because of having various Internet problems.

It would be great to see more people venturing out of their own country forum and joining in the one for all of us worldwide. :D We've got loads of interesting things on there. I'm not sure why people so often tend to stay in their own country forum. (Maybe we've set it up badly.)

Come and join us! 8)

It's amazing how much stress a flaky internet connection can cause, hence I have two ... which merely seems to have doubled the opportunities for stress.

I think the lack of activity in the general area might be because people are afraid to delve into that bit at the top of the screen, not helped by not seeing both in the same view. That said, I explored it early on and was gobsmacked to find Squiffy's House of Fun which has been on Cix since before the Intuhweb as we know it existed*!

* Late 1980s I think.

Thanks for the laugh, JJ. :D

I think you really do understand.

We also have a back up connection - but our tech support doesn't always get us switched over quickly enough.

I'm interested and amazed at some of your other comments (website usability, ain't it?) - must look into them further tomorrow. Great stuff.
