Tax Registration mistake

No, really... it does!
But does it matter more in Malta than at home?

Tax Registration mistake

Postby rasputinluv » Fri 25 Oct 2013 15:11 GMT

I went to register for tax at the expat section. I filled in the form as Settled (self sufficient) category. In my tax certificate I found category as work permit.
I neither work in Malta nor have any work permit. Does it make any difference ?
Shall I go back and ask to correct?

Its their error, and you could easily have not spotted it.

It actually all happened today as I registered for tax belatedly. Will it make any difference from tax point of view that I am in a wrong category ?

I can't see what difference it makes. AFAIK you don't change you tax number if you stop working

THANKS.
What is a 'Temporary resident rate' ( I though I was ordinary resident) ?
How does one become a domicile in Malta or more preferably be not a domicile ?
Is it possible to do tax return online in Malta ?

AFAIK temporary resident rate just means provisional rate, nothing to worry about. Domicile in Malta is very difficult to end up having. Yes can do tax return online

Woman at the expat section said only paper returns are possible! May be she was new but even then it was too much of a misinformation to believe! Luckily we have British expat forum to always fall back on.
Many Thanks

Locals can file online, so I can't see why foreigners can't. Its actually a very simple tax return, with simple banding and few allowances - the only place I lived where it was easier was Hong Kong where it was - how much was your local income ? give us 15%

Yes I checked with the head lady at the tax office. She confirmed every one can file online.

I've shifted this from the Residency and Immigration forum as it seems to me to be more about tax status than immigration status.

Is there a link to see the Malta's standard tax return form ? I tried to google it with little success.
