To your average Briton, Slovakia is one of Europe's less well-known countries. Why not do something to change that sad state of affairs with our Quick Quiz?

Money matters

Filing tax return

No, really... it does!
But does it matter more in Malta than at home?

Does the whole country file the return during this 2 week window?

Yes, that what the lady told us. Had to go and collect our return as it did not turn up in the post. Most helpful in the Gozo office and no queues(shhh!). Just prints one off and even asks if we want to go through it with her.

ps. Mine is easy......nil, nil nothing, nil, nothing!

I must have picked the wrong time to go to the office in Victoria for advice as I found a none moving queue of 7 or 8 and received the helpful advice of 'come back this afternoon or Saturday morning'.

I filled it in anyway but mine also was mostly naughts except for income drawn in Malta through my prepaid debit card. Using this card for all money transfers (all from pensions) from the UK meant I could just print off a statement for the year.

You should have gone to room 2!
Was the money drawn from earnings or pension?
If from savings/capital, it is not needed to be declared.

The queue was for seeing someone in room 2 and my post says 'all from pensions'!

Postby PeaCakes » Thu 17 Jul 2014 20:20 GMT

Went to tax office in Victoria. I had to
submit my late mothers return also (for 2013!). Got pension statement
from SS office there first for her first ....... Both done in 15 minutes.
I'm impressed!

Hi all,
Not posted on here for ages and ages, but I'm back :)

I have registered for tax, done all the appropriate e-ID registering with gov.mt and the Inland Revenue.
We moved here in Feb 2016 and I was told we have until the end of June 2017 to fill out our online tax returns for 1st Jan - 31st Dec 2016.
I have logged on today to try this and followed the IRD's instructions and when I went to fill my details out it told me I had no years (or something like that). I contacted the IRD and was told (and I quote) 'Kindly note that the individual online tax return Y/A 2017 will be available in the beginning of June 2017'

I'm a little confused and was hoping someone may be able to clarify whether this Y/A 2017 return that will appear at the beginning of June is the correct one for the 1st Jan - 31st Dec 2016 period.
Does anyone know? :)

(I replied to the gentleman from the IRD but he never answered my question!)

Chris
