Car hire

Postby Red » Mon 6 Oct 2008 17:24 GMT

Hi all

My parents and I are coming to Gozo for 4 weeks during November to finalise our research, would like to hire a four seater car about 1500cc. We were there at Easter and the cost was £76 per week. I was wondering if the winter rate differed. Could anyone tell me a fair price, so that we don't get ripped off? (My father has already asked this question but unfortunately he didn't think! ).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Car hire

Thanks for replying Mark.

My father was wondering what a fair price would be for hiring a car, so I told him to ask on the form. After a few days I asked if he had had a reply and he said no. I then asked him, exactly how he had worded his question to which he replied ' Oh, I asked if anyone knew where I could hire a car at a reasonable rate in Gozo'. I explained that was why he never had a reply, someone obviously thought he wanted someone to advertise, but from what you say I am now I'm wondering where he posted his question!

i normally pay around EU22-25 per day for a small automatic on Malta, if thats a help. A manual should cost less. The car hire business seems to be pretty competitive so I think that if you can get anything below EU20 per day then you are laughing (provided it has 4 wheels).

I got my car for 12-25th Oct for £247 Euros (13 days) However 52 euros was for a baby seat and 14 euros was for airport drop off and collection, so the day rate was basically 14 euros per day, thats for a 5 door hatch which can take 2 suitcases so they told me.

Are the quotes you are getting from local firms?

I only want to hire a car for a day for 5 people, I know you don't get the same good rates as you would for hiring for a week, but I am being quoted over 50 euros for 1 day with a certain major car rental firm

The only good thing is that they are literally on my doorstep to collect the car.
