I see dogs aboard nearly every time I use the ferry. Probably the only proviso is that the animal be kept under control (and any mess cleared up).

Do not, under any circumstances, leave your dog(s) alone in the car on the ferry car deck. The pollution and the excessive heat on a summers day could be life threatening.

Also be aware that many Maltese are afraid of dogs so do not be surprised if you receive some unwelcoming looks.

I believe dogs are allowed anywhere except the canteen area - normally people with dogs hang around in the central area near the stairs, or on the top deck.

It's not that bad down there. I got left on my own in a car on the ferry deck several times when I was unable to walk anywhere. The worst thing about it was the racket made by car security systems going off caused by the motion of the boat.
