Shipping back to UK - Customs requirements

Here's where to discuss the practicalities and issues involved in moving back to the UK.

Shipping back to UK - Customs requirements

Postby MightyWelsh » Tue 14 Mar 2006 01:47 GMT

Hey Everyone,
I am returning to the UK at the end of the month and after much investigation have decided to use the United States Postal Service to ship our personal possessions home. They are going by surface mail and I understand what I need to put on the package from a US Customs perspective but does anyone have any advice for preparing for the UK Customs? I'm looking to understand the documentation etc that I would need to help get things back to my UK home with minimal disruption!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Morgan

Welcome to BE and good luck with your move.

Your question is really a repat one but until now we haven't had a repatriation forum - I was never really sure whether we really needed one. I'll go and make a new board now and move your posting to there.

Hope this helps.

I would use a moving company

Hi Morgan,

we thought about using the USPS but decided against it and used a moving company instead. They took care of all the paper work (we just signed on the dotted lines). It all went smoothly.

I totally agree. Contacting a moving company can be the best move since they are used to doing this kind of things, are tuned up with the paperwork and can really be very very helpful.
