It's the largest country by land area that lies entirely within Europe. And the first line of its national anthem says, reassuringly, that it's not dead yet. But what else do you know about Ukraine?

British/Euro Health Card

Postby Malkity » Wed 24 Jun 2009 20:49 GMT

:?: How does one get a health card to travel/live in a Euro country if you've lived out of Britain for quite a few years, but still have NHS number and getting a British Pension?

Thanks Gozomark. I guess we'll have to apply and see what happens.

If you are in reciept of a UK state pension, then I believe you, and your married partner, are eligible for an EHIC.

Thanks Gozomark. Do you think that still applies, even though we haven't been resident in the U.K. for 20+ years?

As long as you are in receipt of a UK state pension, I believe that's what matters. I'm presuming you are UK citizens, or at least citizens of an EU country - if you are not, I'm not sure if it works like that.

bear in mind, EHIC is only for travelling, not for residing purposes.

The main issue is - are you eligible for coverage under NHS ? if so, you will also get EHIC. If you move to another EU country, you transfer your NHS cover to that country, and then get an EHIC issued by that country.

Does that mean as U.K. pensioners we are still covered by NHS? Therefore could apply for the EHIC before we take our trip to Malta? Thanks once again for your help.
