New in the country, looking for a phone.

Hi all,

I've just moved here from Brighton. Wanted to say hi first of all. =)

Now, I need to buy a cell phone, but I have no clue where to get one. Can I buy a subscription and get a free phone with the subscription, like back home?

I heard about a place called *****, which seems to be in the news a lot and looks like they've got a wide range. Are they just a retailer or are they carriers as well?

Your advice would be very helpful, as I'm quite cut off from the world and only able to communicate via Internet at work.

Thanks,

Beck

If you read the posting guidelines you will realise we don't let people advertise or ask for recommendations as we then get inundated with spammy adverts. I don't know where you could be in the UAE and so cut off from the world; there must be numerous supplies of cell phones and their associated plans out there.
Good luck with your search.

Wow.

I must've missed the part about not allowing people to ask for recommendations. All apologies. Now, where you got the idea that I was advertising is beyond me. This doesn't seem like a very lucrative advertising platform to me.

I've been here a little over 24 hours, so I haven't quite acquired a lay of the land, or any mobile plans for that matter.

I'm in Al-Ain, and if you have any useful information, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, my google search of "UAE Expat Forum" was quite fruitless. I was under the impression that I could get help from more seasoned expats in the area, to avoid getting ripped off, as I hear it happens quite often here.

Thanks for the information anyway, I know now to avoid asking for recommendations at all costs! =)
