Alexandria, Egypt

Postby Shazz » Fri 19 May 2006 16:09

Hello!

I've recently moved from the UK.. to Alexandria in Egypt.
To join my partner here.

I've alot to learn to be able to live well out here. Even though I've been here a few times before I did the final move etc.

Its going well but would be great if I could find people who are doing the same as I am by moving to Egypt from the uk!!

To perhaps give me some advice? Aswell as perhaps share experiences!!

Stay Smiling

Hi Shazz, and welcome to BE!

I'm making a new board for Egypt and shall move this topic there. With luck you'll maybe have more chance of a reply that way.

I've never been to Egypt myself. Kay has, but only very briefly - she had a three-hour stopover in Cairo and went to see the Pyramids. (From what she's told me about it, it wasn't a very happy experience - bad traffic and worse touts!)

Best of luck with your stay in Egypt, anyway - we look forward to hearing how you get on!

Cheers

Hey Dave...

Thanks :)

Yes, I was very lucky in the sense that I already had some friends I knew here, who helpped me get around when I first visited this country. And got me in the know quick in how to deal with things like that.

lol and yes Cairo has a bad traffic system... kinda like you need life insurance just to cross the road!! But after a while you start to see it in a different light also.. it amazes me they rarely even crash!

I live in Alexandria which is almost totally the opposite to Cairo. It is a city also but more laid back and a slower kinda life. Which I like.

I just need a little help and pointers into settling down here. My partner is Egyptian and a wonderful guy who helps me alot in learning and so on but it would be nice to find others alike me who can perhaps then help me learn faster or direct me to places I can join to help me and perhaps even me to them. How the world works wouldnt you agree? Contacts.. people knowing things you dont or you them.. would make life easier alot!!

Thanks again
Shazz.

Postby mrs_e » Wed 12 Jul 2006 21:45

hello shazz

i am an english woman married to an egyptian and living in cairo ; we have a 6 month old daughter, laila. i have been to alex a few times and like it very much, it certainly does have a calmer atmosphere than here in the crazy, busy capital.

how are you finding life there ? i seem to remember a huge restaurant in a place called seedy beshr and the restaurant was called balbaa. i have had a few good meals there. :-)

hope egyptian life is treating you well.......best wishes

Looking for friends in Alex

Postby hayat » Sat 25 Nov 2006 13:16

:D Hi I've been living in Alex nearly 4 years now, been absorbed in taking care of my daughters with whom I was reunited after their abduction by the Father in 1990.

They are developing their own lives now and am feeling isolated, anyone here need a friend? :P

Hi!
I'm Judy - originally from the Isle of Wight - and I've lived in the Middle East since 1977, 18 years in Bahrain and Egypt for nearly 12 years.
My husband is Egyptian but lived abroad for 32 years. We have been married for 24 years.

We divide our time between our flat in Maadi and our house on the beach at Ain Sokhna, 100 miles south east of Cairo.

I know and love the area so if there is anyone who would like to contact me with any questions they are very welcome.

Judy :D
