Opinions/Politics

Below the belt!

Some people like to talk politics, others don't. I've made a separate forum so you can post if you want or ignore it if you don't. Hope this is an acceptable compromise.

Given that 90% of Maltese are bible bashers, its not surprising - its not really up for debate with many (most ?) Maltese -

god exists, non-catholics go to hell, priests are perfect (*), the pope is chosen personally by god and so is even more perfect, animals don't go to heaven (so I agree with them on one thing at least 8) ), abortion is wrong always, divorce is wrong, being gay is wrong and worse than being a paedophile as being gay is a sin whereas kiddie fiddling is merely a misdemeanor which can be forgiven by confessing.

* A priest in Gozo was accused of kiddie fiddling - my neighbour said it can't be true as he's a priest, and that the accuser will burn in hell.

If that long list is true, then god is a shit. I bet if god does exist, then the catholics have got it all wrong.

God is not a shit! Even though Randolph Churchill said he was.

He does not exist!

Where is there any evidence to suggest he does?

(I'm definitely moving this to Ops/Pol.)

In the Bible. And you know it must be true because the Bible is the Word of God.

And now a Vatican official has blamed homosexuals:

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone had said homosexuality, not celibacy, lay behind the child sex abuse scandals.

what a complete moron - they just don't get it do they.

the only reason more boys than girls are abused by priests is that the church is so sexist that boys are given more responsibility than girls, and so there is more opportunity

from the first article

In Malta, 10 men have taken three Catholic priests to court for alleged child abuse in their youth and have asked to meet the Pope. There has been a high incidence of reported cases on the small Mediterranean island, whose inhabitants are mainly Catholic, our Rome correspondent notes.

So presumably a lot of Maltese are going to burn in hell for making these wicked accusations against men of god who by definition could never possibly do such things.

I presume he thinks the fact that there are more cases of boys being abused than girls proves his point...the only reason more boys than girls are abused by priests isn't because the priests are gay, but because the church is so sexist that boys are given more responsibility than girls, and so there is more opportunity

BTW, does that mean he's admitting some priests are gay ??

Who knows what he thinks? Look at what else he thinks/believes:

- someone was born of a virgin (Possible, I suppose, if there had been ejaculation without penetration in the appropriate area.)

- someone executed as a criminal, by the usual means at the time, came back to life (Possible, I suppose, it happened to Moist von Lipwig in Terry Pratchett's book Going Postal.)

The whole thing is just ridiculous and the Catholic church is digging itself deeper into the hole it has dug for itself with these outrageous comments. Now that they're running around like headless chickens blaming other groups in society, they've just made themselves look even more despicable. Their behaviour would be laughable were it not that the abuses they've been condoning or covering up for so long appear to have genuinely happened.

The Vatican still don't get it.

The Pope's now commending the virtues of penance to all his followers. Why? The abuses are by people in the hierarchy of the church, not the laity.

And he's come out with this gem:

Conformism which makes it obligatory to think and act like everyone else, and the subtle - or not so subtle - aggression towards the Church, demonstrate how this conformism can really be a true dictatorship
