Beryl Cook RIP

Looks like we have a few photographers and artists in our midst so here's a place to talk about all photography, art, and related subjects.

Beryl Cook RIP

Postby Dave » Sun 1 Jun 2008 10:28 GMT

Sad news for those who missed it - artist Beryl Cook, famous for her paintings of plump people and once described by Victoria Wood as "Rubens with jokes", died last Wednesday.

We've done a summary of the national dailies' obituaries on British Newspapers Online:

The Guardian and Daily Telegraph have galleries of some of her pictures, as well as photos of her. She wasn't at all like I imagined her to be!

Thanks, Ruggie! :D

I think it's great that she was so successful in spite of the critics. Justly so, too, in my view; there's always plenty of expression about the people in her paintings.
