Greencard without a lawyer?

Postby Mark1976 » Sat 27 Dec 2008 22:15 GMT

Hi there

I've been living in NY for about 2 years now on an L1 Visa. My employer will probably extend my L1 but I'd like to get a Greencard so that my right to be here isn't defined by my employer.

It sounds like I'd have a good chance of obtaining a Greencard.

My understanding is that it will cost about $10k in lawyers fees.

I heard that some people have done the paperwork themselves and it's cost them next to nothing. But that it's time consuming and complicated. Has anyone else done this or have experience in this area?

I think the real issue is the basis for you being entitled to a green card. You would have to speak to a lawyer to see if you're eligible. Look in the yellow pages, many lawyers give a free phone consultation. And call a few of them to get complete information. Good luck!
