how do I get to see english premiership football matches?

Postby MrBoosh » Mon 02 Oct 2006 13:41

I am arriving in Brisbane on 13th October, its finally happening!!!!

But I am going to miss the premiership games, I am told there is a highlights show on one of the pay tv networks. Does this channel show any live games? I know the time difference is an issue but I will not mind staying up late to watch it. Its the only thing about England that i'm gonna miss (well maybe a good scotch egg and a greggs pastie!!!).

Is it possible to receive skysports out in Australia or anything else that will show live games. I keep stumbling across websites that offer a one off payment for $30 and you get 800+ channels but i'm not sure if its a trustworthy website.

So any pointers I would appreciate it!

Hi and welcome to BE.

Congratulations and best wishes with the big move, in only a matter of days now.

My husband watches the premier league games live, as we subscribe to Austar pay tv, via satelite. You should wait until you arrive, and then make enquiries about their sports channels package. They've just this week launched a new channel, Fox sports 3, which offers three live games per week, or so they say. He's also football mad, and sits up all night every Saturday and won't consider recording it.

Sweet music to my ears!!! I agree with your husband, recording is not an option! gotta be live!

I might even get chance to watch the mighty Preston North End if they get promoted this season.

Apparently there are more games shown here than in UK - according to his mates. You can see the FA Cup and Scottish Cup Final too, and they're shown on the free to air channels.

Also, if you're in metro Brisbane there are plenty of bars that show Premiership matches at random hours of the night.
Specifically the Pig&Whistle at Eagle St CBD shows all the televised matches live and has a very large contingent of footie fans. Also, it's where the QLD Roar fans meet up before a home match for a few beers.
Have had some great nights there over the last few years.

Hi Mr boosh............... I'm from Brookfield.

The mighty Preston North End look like they could do with another Willie Irvine........ as opposed to Alan Irvine eh?

Still we have to give him a chance as he is relatively new to the game at top level apparently. Moyesey speaks highly of him so maybe there's hope for us yet? We need to correct this downward spiral pronto as a matter of great urgency.......... otherwise relegation is looming? Still have plenty of games left........... but we need to get a move on............ hopefuly some funding will become avalable once the transfer market opens?

hi bobcat

Brookfield hey!! i'm from Ashton

yep the north end arent looking too clever at the moment, it looks like survival is the name of the game at the moment. I get all the updates from my brother and Sister who go to all the home games and they also tell me that the performances are as bad as can be imagined!!
