Quality of private maternity healthcare in Delhi

Postby fred » Fri 08 Oct 2004 18:59

My wife and I are currently considering a possible expat contract move to New Delhi from the UK. However my wife is 2 months pregnant and hence we would like to know how Delhi private healthcare would compare to the healthcare provided in the uk. Are there any hospitals specifically catering for the expat communities ?

Hi Fred

We are no longer living in New Delhi so this is just from memory. The Apollo hospital is the one which is generally used by expats. As for maternity care, we had friends who chose to stay in New Delhi and others who chose to go back to the UK. Generally they chose according to their family circumstances and what suited them best.

That said, I did visit the Apollo once - accompanying someone who had to get some tests done - and I wasn't particularly impressed by the look of the place. No doubt the staff are well trained and qualified, but the place itself didn't look very modern. Just my opinion.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Let us know how you get on.
