Five questions about the Netherlands – Quick Quiz

To mark the occasion of Queen Beatrix’s last Koninginnedag (Queen’s Day) and the investiture of her son as King Willem-Alexander on 30 April 2013, we thought it only fitting to have five questions about the Netherlands.

  1. How many working windmills are there in the Netherlands?
  2. When he ascended the throne, King Willem-Alexander became the first King of the Netherlands in how many years?
  3. As its name implies, the Netherlands is geographically low-lying. How much of its territory lies below sea level?
  4. What are the three main islands of the Caribbean Netherlands?
  5. Which Dutch artist is famous for his lithographs and woodcuts such as House of Stairs, Waterfall and Belvedere?

Dave was bitten by the expat bug at the age of 13 when he went to live in Germany. Since leaving school at the age of 30 (with a doctorate in something so obscure even he can't remember what it's about) he's also lived in Bangladesh, India and Thailand, and travelled to most European countries (including several that don't exist any more, though he denies responsibility), as well as Barbados, South Korea, St Vincent, UAE, Laos, and many more.
