Typical uniforms worn by the Khmer Rouge, who exercised a genocidal reign of terror over Cambodia for four catastrophic years from 1975 to 1979.
We visited the “killing field” at Choeung Ek on the outskirts of Phnom Penh late in 2011. Apart from the memorial to the thousands of men, women and children slaughtered there, and the displays showing where and how that was perpetrated, there’s a museum showing glimpses of what life was like under the Khmer Rouge, as well as information about their leaders and the attempts to bring them to justice. These uniforms were one of the exhibits.
