A girl with an aluminium water pot in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province.

Kay adds:
“I was travelling in the north of Pakistan some years back – not something for the faint-hearted – when I spotted this girl at the side of the road, fetching water for her household. She kindly allowed me to take her photograph.

“Life was and is hard for girls and women – although many of the Afghan refugees in Peshawar set great store by giving their girl children a good education. Something the Taliban did everything they could to prevent when they seized power.”
