Castle Stalker in Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe just north of Oban.
Dave adds:
“This ties in rather well with our recently published article about film locations in Scotland. When I found the photo, I immediately starting thinking about what film I might have seen it in – and didn’t take too long to come up with the answer. Python fans will recognise it as the Castle of Aaaaarrrrrrggghhh, where King Arthur’s quest for the Holy Grail reaches its climax.
“Unsurprisingly, its dramatic setting means it’s also a favourite for tourist calendars and postcards.
“Apparently the name ‘Stalker’ comes from the Gaelic stalcaire (falconer), and every letter should be pronounced – so that ‘stal’ rhymes with ‘shall’, not with Received Pronunciation’s ‘draw’.”
