Many times, when a company in Canada goes out of business, the employees are eligible for a “retraining program” that is paid for by either the Federal or the Provincial Government. These are designed to get the person working again, but not always in their original kind of job.
The person is paid through the EI program, while the school costs are paid by the retraining program.
Those with young kids get free child care to enable them to attend the courses. Many women have moved into the construction trades through retraining programs.
Kay has been an expat for nearly 30 years. She set up the British Expat website back in early 2000, whilst living in London and missing the expat life. These days she spends much of her time lugging computers and cameras around the world. (Dave gets to deal with all the really heavy stuff.)
British Expat Ltd is a registered company in England & Wales.
