Mozambique: Independence Day

Mozambique celebrates its national day on 25 June each year, commemorating independence from Portugal in 1975 after a guerilla war lasting 11 years.

To commemorate the independence struggle, Mozambique’s national flag incorporates an AK-47 Kalashnikov rifle and is the only flag in the world to bear such a modern weapon.
