“I’m not the type to make New Year resolutions. I know I’d never keep them. However, when challenged to draw one as part of a friendly cartoon competition, this is what I came up with. I just happened to be reading a book about Modigliani at the time and liked his style. I wondered if it might lend itself to cartooning. This pastiche is the result of my efforts.
“The model for the original painting in 1918 was Jeanne Hébuterne, Modigliani’s common-law wife. Soon after Modigliani died in 1920, having lived for 35 turbulent years, she committed suicide aged only 21.”

How about doing a series of cartoons based on Modigliani portraits? The tilted head and other touches would give you a recognisable style for a subset of your own work.
Interesting idea, thanks. As it happens I next attempted a take on a Fernando Botero, which was OK, but perhaps not as good. I’d like to develop my own style but meanwhile it’s fun to “copy” the masters. Of course, Botero himself is probably most famous for his “Mona Lisa, Age Twelve”.
