Portable careers: introduction

Several years ago a friend suggested that I should write an article about making money online.  I replied that I might just do that – when I’d figured out how to do it!  Making a living online isn’t easy, but there are lots of ways you can add to your income by working online from home (wherever ‘home’ is.)

The internet is an absolute boon to those of us who travel the world and want to carry their careers with them – or even just make an extra few bob for a couple of hours here and there.  This is a situation many expats (or expat spouses) find themselves in.  And, thus, after all these years I have decided to share what I’ve learned in the hope of helping you to do it too.

Over the coming weeks, I hope to expand this series with lots of ideas and resources to help you make money from home or on your travels too.  There will be no hype and no get-rich-quick stuff.  After all, if I could make millions of quid in five minutes from no work, then I’d be doing it rather than writing this.

There are also several of offline portable careers (such as TEFL), and we’ll be covering them too.  We already have several experts who are willing to write about the subject for us.

I hope you’ll enjoy the series and please do write in if you have any questions or ideas for future articles in this series by commenting below.

PG Author: Kay McMahon

Kay has been an expat for nearly 30 years. She set up the British Expat website back in early 2000, whilst living in London and missing the expat life. These days she spends much of her time lugging computers and cameras around the world. (Dave gets to deal with all the really heavy stuff.)
