British Expat Newsletter: January 2017

Hello, a belated Happy New Year, and welcome to those of you who have recently signed up.

In this issue

This month

We’re back after our traditional break for December. We didn’t spend it particularly traditionally – halfway through the month we were told that our shipment of personal belongings had arrived at the UK port, a month earlier than we’d been expecting it. It cleared Customs and was delivered the day before New Year’s Eve, and we’ve been trying to work out where to store it all ever since. Oh well, I can think of worse problems to be faced with…

Our pal (and top British cartoonist) Brighty came up with a brilliant and topical Christmas greeting for his fans. Clue: it involves a turkey and a Donald…

If you’re feeling strapped for cash after the festive season, don’t forget that you can save some unnecessary expenditure if you use a currency exchange dealer rather than a High Street bank. We’ve used OFX many times to handle our transfers and been pleased with the deals they’ve given us. And we’re not alone – we have a testimonial video from one repatriating couple to prove it!

Our latest Quick Quiz is about emblems and symbols of cities and countries. It’s a little shorter and a little longer than usual. Only three questions, but two of them ask you to match lists of five into pairs. See how you get on!

And our latest Pic of the Week heads for South America – it’s Machu Picchu, the 15th-century citadel that’s Peru’s most iconic symbol. With the possible exception of Paddington Bear.
